Product Overview

Our Brazil Nut Oil is sourced from the Madre de Dios region of Peru. They are better known as Amazon Nuts in the communities that collect them, since they grow across the rainforests of Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia. The trees grow wild and are one of the giants of the rainforest—often standing tall for hundreds of years. By sourcing our oil for your products, you give value to the bounty of these incredible forests.

Each nutshell from the Brazil tree is collected by local castanheiros (or castañeros) during the torrential rainy season, from January to March. Collection is usually quite far from communities, so we support the castanheiros by financing their long weeks of harvest at no interest. We also provide harvesting platforms to ensure that they have the most viable amount of nuts by keeping them safe from the heavy rains. The harvest is then loaded and hand carried by the castanheiros until they can reach the river for transportation. Since the wild harvest of Amazon Nuts coincides with the start of the school year, many use the money they earn for school supplies, books, and pay for better teachers.

Brazil Nut Oil is subtle yellow in color, and has a sweet, nutty scent that makes it a great fit for personal care products. Light and easy to apply, it provides long-lasting emolliency that can be used all over the body. It possesses a high vitamin and mineral content that helps to encourage skin rejuvenation. With a melting point of 4°C, it becomes semi-solid in colder temperatures.
